Climate Finance Stalemate: UK Calls for Ambition at COP29

Fossil Fuel Sponsorships Criticized for Greenwashing Sports

A report by the New Weather Institute highlights how fossil fuel companies have invested over £4bn in sports sponsorship, attempting to "greenwash" their environmental impact. Football, motorsports, and rugby have the most fossil fuel sponsors, with major companies like Aramco, Shell, and TotalEnergies leading the way. Critics, including Olympic rower Imogen Grant, argue that this threatens the integrity of sports by masking the harm these companies cause to the environment.
